Product Sustainability

Our vision of delivering performance that makes a difference is exemplified by our products that provide health, safety, environmental and other sustainability benefits for our customers and their customers.

We are committed to continuing to develop innovative products that improve the performance of our customers’ products by imparting properties that extend product life spans, increase fuel efficiency and optimize resource conservation. We look to grow our involvement in the circular economy by developing opportunities to use waste or by-products as raw materials. As responsible manufacturers, we understand our obligation to share comprehensive information on the health, safety and environmental aspects of our products.

Our R&D team uses a comprehensive, in-house product sustainability assessment framework to evaluate new product and process development projects for safety, environmental, and health impacts and includes more than 40 questions about sustainability impacts ranging from air emissions to circularity, potential safety risks to workers and other aspects. 

From the assessments completed in 2023, 96% of new development projects were classified as having a sustainability benefit. We have shown year on year progress in striving toward our 2025 target that 100% of new products and process development projects will have a sustainability benefit.

Our EVOLVE® Sustainable Solutions technology platform was designed to deliver products that offer sustainable content with reliable performance at industrial scale. This technology platform focuses on the development of breakthrough sustainable products and process technologies that leverage circular value chains and/or materials recovered from end-of-life tires and/or recycled materials, and/or renewable and bio-based materials, and/or processes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Our EVOLVE® Sustainable Solutions technology platform was designed to deliver products that offer sustainable content with reliable performance at industrial scale. This technology platform focuses on the development of breakthrough sustainable products and process technologies that leverage circular value chains and/or materials recovered from end-of-life tires and/or recycled materials, and/or renewable and bio-based materials, and/or processes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Our engineered elastomer composites (E2C®) product line was named to the European Rubber Journal’s inaugural list of Top 10 Elastomers for Sustainability for the third time as well as our EVOLVE® Sustainable Solutions for the second time. E2C products target the heavy mining equipment space where investments in efficiency and automation create strong demand for high-performance rubber and our EVOLVE product line is a new technology platform for advancing sustainable reinforcing carbons.

Our ENTERA aerogel particles portfolio is designed to mitigate thermal runaway and reduce the risk of fires from occurring in lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles. The portfolio includes three aerogel products that can be integrated into various thermal barrier applications including blankets, pads and coatings. These innovations come in response to stringent global safety regulations and aim to provide solutions that increase battery efficiency, safety and lifespan while supporting the automotive industry’s shift towards electrification.

Achieving this certification furthers our commitment to advancing circularity and traceability, helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals by delivering sustainable solutions at a global scale.​
