Winning the Sustainability Transition with Battery Materials

We recognize that we have a critical role to play in the global electrification of vehicle fleets and stationary energy storage. Our innovative conductive additives enable our customers to make more efficient, longer life lithium-ion batteries for a more sustainable electric vehicles (EV) and battery storage future. We have invested and developed a broad portfolio of conductive additives for batteries including conductive carbons, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanostructures and blends of conductive additives to deliver optimal performance. Our fumed alumina is also used for the separator and cathode active material coatings and our aerogel can be integrated into the thermal barriers for lithium-ion batteries.

Establishing an ESG Governance Structure

As part of our efforts to further advance our sustainability strategy, we enhanced our governance practices for environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) matters by establishing a formal governance structure managed by an ESG Steering Committee. We believe that this governance structure will enable us to continue to successfully implement our sustainability strategy across the company, manage goal setting and reporting processes, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders across our value chain as we progress in our sustainability journey.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Within the Chemical Industry

We recognize the importance of driving meaningful change to advance diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) within the chemical industry. To ensure a robust and sustainable talent pipeline and create a new generation of STEM leaders, we joined as a sponsoring partner of the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI). FOSSI is a national program in the USA that seeks to increase the number of underrepresented professionals in the chemical industry workforce by providing scholarships and professional development opportunities to students pursuing preferred STEM degrees at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Supporting Climate Education and Research

As a leader in our industry, we have a responsibility to extend our positive influence by supporting organizations in our local communities that share our values, especially those working to advance education and research around climate protection and adaptation. The Cabot Corporation Foundation is contributing $375,000 to Stone Living Lab, a unique initiative in Massachusetts, USA that brings scientists, students, and the community together to explore nature-based solutions to climate change. Through this innovative partnership, we have established the Cabot Education and Community Engagement Program, enabling real-world applications of climate science and strengthening the resiliency of our local community.
